This is the next-to-last update that you will receive on the global IKEA pitch. Last Friday, we submitted the final animatics for the two films that will be tested over the month of August in 11 markets — Germany, US, Canada, UK, India, China, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Japan, and Poland. This officially marks the end of a strategic and creative effort that began six months ago.
During this time, we’ve deployed resources from our Lima, Sao Paulo, New York, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Prague, Madrid, Bucharest, Bombay, and Shanghai offices. A colossal global push orchestrated by the IKEA account team at McCann Madrid that also received key support from Craft Worldwide, Weber Shandwick, and McCann’s Global Planning team.
It was a long, grueling process that saw Sweden’s almighty Akestan Holst and IKEA’s in-house agency fall along the way. The race is now between McCann and…… On September 4th, IKEA will notify us on their final decision.
Your contributions during each step of the process made possible a show of force that cannot be described with words. If the goal was to show IKEA what it’s like to work with a three-Grand Prix and Titanium Lion-winning global agency — well, mission accomplished. Our work was consistently and openly celebrated by the client after each of the many tissue sessions and presentations. We arrive at the final stage of this pitch in the strongest possible position.
Personally, I was humbled by your display of generosity, relentlessness, and sheer talent. Many of the ideas and design explorations you contributed during the various stages of the process — some of which didn’t make it into the final pitch deck for myriad reasons but influenced and informed the work that did make it — were potential Gold Lion-winners. The abundance, diversity, and depth of our strategic and creative thinking were simply prodigious.
Regardless of what happens on September 4th, you made us all feel proud of being part of McCann Worldgroup, essentially a group of people spread around the globe who love (and are among the best at) what they do. And for that, I can only say thank you.
